Stanley travelled to Leyland with 14 players and against a back drop of 4 heavy defeats to put in a much improved and encouraging performance. Coaches made changes to the pack bringing in a couple of relative newcomers and throwing down the challenge to give it a go. All of the players improved and upped their performances to give a very spirited performance against a team with a much better league record.

Two tries in the first half from Jordan Hindley kept Stanley in touch and saw them reach the break at 12  – 8 down. Some early lapses in the second half gave Leyland a lead that Stanley were always going to find difficult to close. However, Stanley did score arguably the best try of the game with the ball sweeping first right then left before Ajay Lord crossed under the posts. Ajay converted his own try.
