Blackpool Stanley have been nominated for an award at the prestigious Lancashire Sports Awards in the category of Community Club of the Year. Each Local Authority in Lancashire makes nominations in a number of categories and Blackpool Sports Council has nominated the club as winners of the Blackpool Community Club of the Year.
Other nominees include Blackburn Community Sports Club, Ribble Valley Netball Club, Thornton Sports Gymnastics and South Ribble Runners amongst others.
The Community Club Award is given to an active and well run sports club that has undertaken great work in running development programs which attract and retain participants, particularly those from under-represented groups, and which help their members to develop their sports potential. Where appropriate, the club will have worked towards gaining a high standard national accreditation or continued to retain their Clubmark status.
Club Chairman, Simon Hornby, commented “it is a great honour for the club to be the Blackpool Community Club of the Year for 2014, an award we would never of expected or thought possible. To be representing the town in this category at the County awards is a very proud moment for me as chairman and is a reflection of the continuing hard work and dedication shown by our relatively small group of volunteers. Everyone at the club should be proud of what they are achieving both as individuals and collectively as teams and as a club”.
The awards in the various categories will given at a ceremony in January 2015 which will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool.
