Blackpool Stanley kicked off their league season with a hard earned win against new team Liverpool St Helens giving them the start they wanted. Blackpool received the ball 1st in very windy conditions knocking straight on giving Liverpool the advantage followed by a penalty which led to a Liverpool try with the home side not touching the ball.

Blackpool finally got some good possession with all the home forwards making good yardage and the away side struggling to cope in the heavy conditions. After more good forward work hooker Dave Minnikin dived over from half back for a try.

Captain Jack Connell then was held up over the line but quick ball out wide led to centre Tony Hickes crashing over for a try converted by Minnikin leaving the home side a 10-4 half time lead.

Stanleys defence at the beginning of the second half was found wanting letting the Liverpool prop score an easy try as both sides were struggling in the strong wind to keep possession. Kenny Yui then got in for a converted try after good work by Jordan Tierney but then a harsh sin binning for the home side let Liverpool get within 4 points with a third try of their own.

Substitute Brett Whitehead then combined with Minnikin for the hooker to get his 2nd converted try and in a final flourish it was Whitehead in the last few seconds drop goalling from 35m out for a point and the win for the home side. They now move onto Higginshaw `A` away next saturday the 14th of March.
