It’s with great sadness that the club announces the passing of former player Andy Runciman, one of Stanley’s greats. Andy was an uncompromising prop forward who took the team forward on every occasion he pulled on the tangerine and black. Undoubtedly he was his own man but nevertheless was one of us. It was always inspiring to see his name on the team sheet. He played for the club through the successful seasons in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and played with him at the club. The family have always been involved with the club, Andy’s late wife, June, helped out many times behind the scenes and sons, Simon and David both played for the club. Andy and Simon played in the same team at one point providing a proud moment for Andy and a bit of history for the club.
He passed away peacefully last night after a long battle with Cancer in hospital close to his home in Spain.
We hope to gather to raise a glass to Andy at some point once the plans of the family become clear. More details will follow. The club sends it’s sincere condolences to Katie, Simon and David and the rest of his family, our thoughts are with you all at this sad and difficult time.
