Dave Sankey Tribute

It’s with great sadness that the club announces the passing of former player Dave Sankey. Dave played for the club during what many would consider the glory days. He played on the wing alongside his brother John, who played in the centre or at stand-off, and enjoyed the success the club had in the 1980’s and 1990’s being part of the side that achieved successive promotion to reach the First Division of what was then the North West Counties League. He was a quick and tenacious player who never sherked his defensive duties and was always able to finish off try scoring opportunities.

Dave’s nephew, Daniel Stretton continued the Stanley playing link in recent years and his sister Joanne and her husband James are always big supporters of the club.

His health hadn’t been at its best over recent years and he passed away peacefully at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Wednesday 7th April 2021. The club sends it’s sincere condolences to John, Joanne, Daniel and the rest of his family, our thoughts are with you all at this sad and difficult time.
